Powder coatings is a standard surface coating treatment for most finished sheet metal components.
The term 'powder coating' derives from the use of a powder that is sprayed onto the metal components which are then passed through an oven where they are cured, a process which turned the flock powder into a surface coatings.
A particular feature of the treatment is the electrostatic charging of the components on a rack or rail which charges the parts to be sprayed which attracts the powder to the metal surface. One benefit of this technique is that the powder can be attracted to undersides and hidden surfaces that a paint spray gun (wet spray) might miss or be unable to cover without exact targeting by the person carrying out the spraying.
Powder coatings come in a broad range of systems for most applications and are mostly an industry standard.
